For a really good editorial about the unstable mess that Yahoo mail has become, check out the story below! You can comment, too!

I’m Nightowl, the leader of this crusade, and I’d like to welcome all the Yahoo mail users to our blog.  If you want to go directly to alternative mail options and other resources, click here.

We put this up to get our stories out from under Yahoo’s control and to show the public what has really been done to thousands, maybe millions, of Yahoo users with their badly flawed, non beta-tested roll-out of Neo.

We decided to invite Mail and other users to this blog because we know what you’re about to go through. We know that you’re going to complain and ask questions in the Mail Uservoice Forum, something I fondly like to call the “Feedback Trench,” and we know that you will NOT BE HEARD. Oh, they’ll tell you they care and they’ll tell you they’ll fix this or that, but they won’t.

Take it from thousands upon thousands of users who have been doing just that in the Group “Feedback Trench” for two months and whose cries have not been heard.  They will go through the motions; they will ask for feedback and claim they are gathering it. You will believe that you can vote and bring the numbers up and it will matter. We’re here to warn you that it won’t.

The top topic, which is entitled “Return Groups format to prior format that WORKS!,”  currently has 54,541 votes for it and 5,840 comments. Yahoo does not care. No vote number will be enough. No comment number will be enough. We have learned that the hard way, and many have suffered for months.

So we are here to warn you:  If you honestly think vote counts matter or comments matter in the “Feedback Trench,” you’re sadly mistaken. It doesn’t matter if you pay for a premium account, either. Our Groups paying customers suffered the exact same fate.

So here is what we are doing. We have three categories: Fight, Flee, and Fix.

To Fight, join the crusade. You can join the Mods and Members group and get updates there, or you can crusade by using the Contact Information to write Yahoo executives, stockholders, advertisers, and the media and ask them to read this blog. They are the only thing that can stop Yahoo from continuing on its destructive path to make all things NEO.

You can e-mail them or you can tweet for the cause; something we desperately need is more tweeters. You can submit a story or post it in a comment, stating how this change has impacted your life or changed how you have to do things.

We also have been inviting the media, stockholders, and advertisers to come to this blog to see the truth about what Yahoo is doing to its once loyal user base – how it has tossed aside the disabled and elderly and will not heed their cries from the trench. So we have brought their cries, and can also bring yours, out of the darkness of the trench and into the light of the public eye.

Then there is Flee. If you’ve had enough of all things Yahoo. we have a list of Alternative Mail Providers that might be helpful.  So far we don’t have much available in the way of specifics, but if we get volunteers to help research the mail options, we can add feature information later. Since we’re primarily Groups users, we need someone who knows more about what Mail users need to help with that.

Last, there’s Fix. A team of people headed by Shal Farley is working to help those trapped in the Neo interface cope with it and learn how to use it (those parts that actually work). There have been workarounds for groups; maybe some can be found for mail. Check out the Fixing Neo page if you are interested in this category.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask by contacting me, leaving a comment on the blog, or joining Mods and Members group.

Thank you, and let us know if there’s any way we can help.

  1. Hello Nightowl:
Thank you for doing this. It seems like a lot of work.
I would not be opposed to you selling a small amount of advertising space on this website, you are entitled to a little compensation for all your work.

  2. I’ve been wanting to send this to you since I saw it posted to my group a week ago. It has taken me this long to get the writer’s permission . . . . Of our current 3800+ members, many have stopped receiving email. But like me, they often go to the group site and read intermittently . . . .

“I don’t know if you also use yahoo mail.. but recently they jacked up yahoo mail as well.. now I have to be careful not to click to open ads that look just like e-mail lines in my inbox. I’m so frustrated with the whole mess I looked into gmail.. but gmail is worse! With all their stupid social networking facebook like stuff. BAH! I read they made these changes so tablets and other media like smartphones can access them better or easier, but man are they screwing things up!

“It’s confusing, frustrating, laggy, UGLY, and just not user friendly at all. It’s not
even about change with this mess, it’s just not even usable! Sooooooo annoying!”

  3. Just to clarify, YahooMail has been as bad for its paying — “Premium” — customers as it has for those with free accounts. With terrifying frequency, my Yahoo mail has:

obscured previous messages in (unwanted) strings of replies,

balked at opening attachments (including attachments I send myself from my reliable gmail address),

turned opening folders into a test of agility, and above all,
gone into deep-freeze (I’ve memorized all the error message codes; just try me) when I desperately needed to open or send an email for work.

Customer Care, as it is called, has ignored my dozens of pleas for help. In fact — here’s the kicker — when Customer Care did respond, one of its suggestions was that I not attempt to use Yahoo email for work-related messages. Now, there’s a vote of confidence.

  4. Because Yahoo no longer allows Group owners to email pending members from inside the group to confirm their memberships are not spam, trolls, I was looking for a way to be able to email them without using my personal email address. In the past these emails were sent out using the Group Owner Email address created by Yahoo for the group. With this option no longer available one of the suggestions to remedy if was to create a secondary email address on your Yahoo email account to use specifically for the group you own. This idea while not as easy as the original option we had, would work. In the past I have had secondary emails on my Yahoo account without any issues. But with the new neo mail I have tried at least 30 times in the past few days to create a secondary email for my group and I cannot. When you set up the secondary email, which can only be done through fully featured neo mail, not the “basic” setting, it appears to set up the email and them prompts you to log in again to confirm the change. You enter your user and password and it reloads the log in screen. This is what Yahoo calls “being stuck in the Log in loop”. I followed their help posts about deleting my browser cache, cookies etc, even went so far as to wipe everything with CC cleaner, and I still get the log in loop. I tried using another browser to set up the secondary email and that also has the log in loop. I don’t know what the problem is, but I hope they fix it soon, or at least reinstate the option to email pending members from inside the group.

  5. I need help in getting back into Yahoo Mail and there is not a human I can speak to.
    Can someone please help me?

  6. David,
For the best help, you can either join the Yahoo Crusade group we run, or you can join the alternate service Yahoo Crusade group and ask your question. I’m not as technical as they all are in there. You don’t have to stay in the group, you can join and leave if you want, but you can get your answers there. that is what it is for.

You don’t need a Yahoo ID to join the alternate group so it would probably be the best bet. Here is the URL for that:

The actual Yahoo Crusade group is found at:

But if you’re having problems with your mail, you could have the same problems in there.

    Thanks, hope I helped,
